How Music Has Shaped Me

Using music as his personal journal, Ryan Madison has become a sure witness for GOD in Christian Hip Hop. The humble roots of southern Alabama is where his journey began. Initially, Ryan started as an avid connoisseur of fine music. As a young listener, he naturally gravitated toward the honest to life songs more so than the popular trendy ones. His primary focus was hip hop in his early years, and he prided himself in having a mix of underground and mainstream artists in his album collection. Some of Ryan's favorite artists, such as Tupac, Mac and Z-Ro & Trae, can be heard as influences in his own style today. The growing popularity of Alabama hip hop artists in the early 2000s paved the way and exemplified success as more than a possibility.

With all of this in place, Ryan Madison was on an inevitable course to join in on the story of music. Prior to beginning his own career as an artist, he served in a support role of his brother D. County who tag teamed with Grilly as a young and hungry, southern hip hop duo. In 2007 while becoming more familiar with the recording studio culture, Ryan penned and recorded his very first verse. While this should've been a launch point for his unlocked gift, it was hamstrung by the content. The first verse and song was self-seeking and self-promoting which stunted his growth as an artist.

This pattern continued for several years until Ryan finally noticed the true power of music could only come from a vulnerable, transparent place. With so many life-shaping events having occurred in his life combined with an intention to be true to his faith in life, he began to record faith-based songs. "Come On In" became the first song where Ryan truly used the music to lyrically drain some of his unshed tears. The potential of his gift began to show, and his music started to take on a true flavor of an ambitious testimony. The album Only A Boy Named Ryan followed shortly afterwards in 2016, and the race was on!

Following Only A Boy Named Ryan, AJ McInnis partnered with Ryan to form the duo From Cross To Crown. They recorded a mixtape Freedom Papers with DJ Showtime which released in 2017. Re-ignited and purposed, Ryan was ready to follow up Only A Boy Named Ryan with a new album. Enter Move Mountains! This collection of songs exhibited unbridled passion, profound faith and a new level of musical composition. Throughout these years of recording, Ryan had begun exploring different genres and styles of music and also learning from the forerunners of these styles. This significantly impacted and enhanced his own purview of music.

With today's social climate notwithstanding, Ryan stands poised to muster another musical reckoning with real life undertones. His mission has been accepted, and if you are looking for something outside of the popular scope of music, then you will find a humble servant proclaiming the name of the Lord in rhythm and praise!
